My favorite meal to date

My favorite meal to date has been a delicious dish called Galbi. The area I am living in is famous for its' Galbi or marinated short ribs. Galbi is a carnivores dream, right?

There are around 7 Galbi restaurants in a .5 mile radius from our house. So, the opportunity to eat Galbi is endless…

In all Korean restaurants, the meal starts of with around 5 or 6 side dishes. There is always kimchi (see post on Kimchi) accompanied with a coleslaw like dish, a bean sprout dish, jellyfish, a big piece of tofu with spices, bean sprouts and onions immersed in soy sauce for dipping and seaweed in saltwater. It’s about enough to fill you up for the meal…

In the middle of the table is a huge pit and the waiter will come with literally burning logs and put them in the middle of the table. A grill goes on top to cover the logs and making it easier to grill.

The waiter then brings out a huge slab of raw meat. The meat is usually marinated in some sort of soy sauce, ginger, and sugar concoction and is just as delicious as it sounds. You are responsible for cooking the meat, the restaurant will provide you with tongs and scissors to cut the meat. (There are also onions, garlic and sometimes mushrooms on the table to grill as well)

After the meat is cut into small pieces, you can either eat it by dipping it into the bean sprout and onion immersed soy sauce, or my favorite way of eating it is wrapping it in a piece of lettuce and eating it in one go…regardless it is delicious and here are a couple pictures of a traditional galbi meal (not mine, but similar nonetheless)
